Sometimes I get angry about certain situations, and then I write about them. This is one of those times. However, in the face of anger, you should also be tactful, which is why this song is very vague.
If you're close to me, you know who/what this song is about. If you're not close, I hope the song by itself is enough to give it meaning.
If you're the subject(s) of this song, no hard feelings. After all, I got this song out of it all right? But just as I won't forget this happened, hopefully you don't either. I'm allowed to be petty too, right?
Lastly, this doesn't fit onto any album of the era it's being released in, because every song is about a situation or a feeling that was directly my fault. But the events that inspired this song were the doings of other people, so since I wasn't consistently blaming myself for what happened, it doesn't fit anywhere else but in its own isolated containment.
If you want a more watered-down analysis of some of the lyrics, I recommend you check it out on Genius, I can annotate stuff there.
Thanks for jamming.
lyrics
You don't know that I know, but I do and I'm done
I hope this is your favorite song
A simple hint can go a long way
And they dropped like lead all the way to the bank
Where you could cash in on humiliation that I feel everyday
I would have quit everything for you
Blown bubbles in the seafoam blue
You had this chance to tell me yourself
But instead I heard it from someone else
I said that I was "waiting for moments like this to take me by surprise"
Maybe that was all just a lie
Every nice thing I ever said, I take it back
Cause you're not worth that
Every drain I ever put on my brain
I now regret, cause you're not worth the energy to try and explain
Why things will never be the same
Every time I see your face
I know that I will never be safe
I looked at you like you're my brother, but everything has changed
When I think of you, I think of all the actions that you can't erase
Leave the red shirt on the couch
And take the backdoor to leave the house
Prove that you are not alone
In the watchful eyes of statues in the stone
The truth gets out eventually, the price you pay for the seeds you sow
What's more blood on the happiness you stole?
Train yard spires
Industrial gray and muted shades
Are all I see when I walk across the bridge to your room
Where I reflect along the memories we made
And how you threw that all away
All for the sake of validation in the night, but
This is the last time that I put up with your lies and your deceit
This is the last time that I throw myself in the middle of your sea
If you think it's so easy to find someone who gives you something that you can never give yourself, then go and find somebody else, because
You don't know that I know, but I do and I'm done
I hope this is your favorite song
All that you mean to me, plastic infidelity
Manufactured from your ivory throne
(Cause I was waiting for moments like this to come on
And take me by surprise, every time
When I look in the mirror, I wonder "what was i doing here
With the veins under your skin?")
I hope this is your favorite song.
